THE SOUND OF THE CAPITAL, OFFICIALLY THE BEST IN WALES AND THE SOUTH WEST

LAST weekend, the city’s community radio station, Radio Cardiff, won the prestigious MMG regional award for Best Radio Station – Wales and the South West.  

Radio Cardiff, the city’s only community radio station marks ten years of broadcasting later this year, and following a shake-up of the schedule in January the station has gone on to win the ultimate accolade, being named Best Station in Wales and the South West.

Featuring local talent, each week more than 100 volunteers are involved in putting together a wide variety of programmes that demonstrate the station’s commitment to offer listeners a real alternative to commercial and mainstream output. With a mix of music shows blending Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Blues and other genres that reflect the Capital’s diverse multi-cultural population; together with Cardiff news and community interest programmes the station is one of the largest volunteer led projects in the capital today.

“We are thrilled  to have received this accolade from our audience. The volunteers that help make Radio Cardiff what it is work tirelessly to give the station its unique voice and distinct identity. Knowing that the audience approve by way of this award is testament that we are doing something right. Radio Cardiff is constantly evolving, and in our 10th year we plan to have a greater impact on the city of Cardiff. This award only strengthens our desire to bring quality community broadcasting to our capital city.”

The award was accepted by Radio Cardiff’s Strategic Director, Jeremy Rees at an event in Bristol over the weekend.

VCS Cymru
